I agree with you that adding more clicks is not the best solution, but it looks cleaner now, better fonts etc. so if only they changed design to current but left links as before that would be nice. Compared to the older version, I have to make more clicks to log out or access settings. Also, the top bar used to be the same color as the background. Can adding clicks, colors and new visual boundaries be really called making things more minimal?
